Visitor Information

Welcome – We love having visitors! We know that visiting a new church can be intimidating. Hopefully this page will provide you some insight in to what you might expect upon visiting our congregation on a Sunday morning.

Location – We are located at 1120 Cedar Street in Eau Claire, WI. Our building is tucked into a hard-to-find residential location on Eau Claire’s west side. We like the location because it is quiet, but, as you will discover, driving directions can be challenging. We have provided this map for easier navigation. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to call the church office for directions. 715-834-2959

Hospitality - When you come on a Sunday morning, you can expect to be greeted warmly by our volunteer Greeters and Ushers. These are members of the faith community who will be of assistance if you need to know where to find the restrooms, coat hangers, office, nursery, etc. Please don’t hesitate to ask!

Worship – Our worship styles vary. With the exception of the summer months, we generally have two services, 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with an Education Hour in between. Our 8:30 a.m. worship is designed to be more “traditional” and consistent in nature. Our 10:30 a.m. worship is created fresh each week, and leans towards what is called a “contemporary”  approach. In the summer months we have one service at 9:30 a.m. and we try to blend the manner of worship to accommodate as many people as possible. No matter what your preference, we strive to provide worship that is meaningful rather than catering to a certain style. Ultimately, we understand that in meaningful worship, God is present and offers us the gifts of love and forgiveness.

To aid in meaningful worship, we provide bulletins, visual projection, multi-media, a fully-staffed nursery, “doodle-bags” for children, and headphones for those with additional hearing needs. Again, the volunteer Ushers and Greeters can assist you in locating these things.

Music – You will observe that we value quality music. We have a variety of choirs, musicians, and special gifts that enhance our worship. We lean heavily on God’s Word through music to celebrate God’s gifts in meaningful ways.

Communion – We celebrate Holy Communion during every worship at Good Shepherd. All ages are invited to participate. We believe that Holy Communion is a means by which God grants us grace. All the baptized are invited and welcome to celebrate in this meal, receiving God’s promise of love, forgiveness, and life everlasting.

What if I don’t ‘do the right thing?’  When do I stand up? Sit down? Come for communion? How do I know what is coming next? Where do I sit? What if I do something wrong? Let’s face it, worship can be a challenge if you are not familiar with a certain faith community and their practices. First-thing’s first: take a deep breathe, and don’t worry! Worship is a place where we celebrate God’s activity. What you do is way less important that what God is doing for you in this space. Although many people are concerned about ‘making a mistake,’ we don’t want you to worry so much about that. Come and be in the presence of God’s people. You will find that others make mistakes, too. You will discover that learning a new community doesn’t take that long. It will be revealed to you that whether you stand, or sit, or sing off key is really not that important … but that you will be transformed by God’s Word is something that you will never regret!

At Good Shepherd, worship is a place where “God happens.” In other words, we believe God is active here! So what is God up to? We order our worship to answer that very question.

What is God up to? The answer…God is:

a)         Gathering us in Community                        (We Gather)

b)        Giving us Word for Life                        (We Hear God’s Word)

c)         Receiving and Offering Gifts               (We Share the Feast)

d)        Sending us into the World                          (We are Sent)

Do you sense the Spirit of God here? We hope you do! We look forward to welcoming you into a new community!
